Organisation profile

SIEMENS AG and its subsidiaries employ approximately 400000 people in nearly 190 countries. SIEMENS CT RTC is the Corporate Research & Technology Center directly available to all SIEMENS Sectors and Regions. The CT RTC vision is to define and develop the technologies and processes for SIEMENS that allow SIEMENS Divisions to lead the way in their industries. Nearly 1,800 scientists at sites in North America, Europe and Asia are working for SIEMENS CT RTC.

The core activities of Siemens are

SIEMENS CT RTC has been involved for many areas in magnet technology, particularly magnets for PM synchronous motors for industrial drive applications, for direct drive wind turbines and for MRI scanners. The portfolio of the two technology fields “Materials” (CT RTC MAT) and “Power & Energy Technologies” (CT RTC PET) offer a unique combination of competences in key technology fields of material development, engineering, hardware design, simulation and manufacturing technologies.
Joint forces of multi-disciplinary expert teams enable innovations and solutions along the entire development chain from material basics up to small batch component manufacturi

Role and contribution to REProMag

The technology fields SIE CT RTC MAT and SIE CT RTC PET participate in work packages linked to demonstrations, focusing on specification of PM Materials for electrical machines, demonstration of technical feasibility via machine simulation, cost analysis and validation of PM materials in electrical machines.
Both fields are also involved in providing material specification based on advanced electrical machine designs, in evaluating and testing the materials according to the specification and experimental verification of the new material properties and in manufacturing tools envisaged in the project via advanced simulation tools for electrical machines.
