On 13 July 2017, Coordinator OBE Ohnmacht und Baumgärtner GmbH & Co. KG (Ispringen, Germany) received the Cleantech Award Baden-Württemberg 2017 as representative for the whole REProMag project consortium.
Dealing with the resource efficient production of permanent magnets based on recycled rare-earth material, our project was awarded the first price in the category Material Efficiency. REPRoMag's Coordinator Prof. Dr. Carlo Burkhardt (OBE) received the certificate and a trophy from Minister of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector of Baden-Württemberg Franz Untersteller during a presentation ceremony in the Schwabenlandhalle in Fellbach, Germany (close to Stuttgart).
The 5th Cleantech Award of the German region Baden-Württemberg (Umwelttechnikpreis Baden-Württemberg) was organised again by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Power Industry (Ministerium für Umwelt, Klima und Energiewirtschaft) of Baden-Württemberg and allocated €100.000 to resource-efficient innovations in the field of clean technologies. More than 80 projects competed in the four categories Energy Efficiency, Material Efficiency, Emission Reduction, Recycling & Separation and Process Measuring & Control Technology.
We are delighted that REProMag succeeded in such a strong contest with high-level projects of very well-regarded companies in Baden-Württemberg. Congratulations!

>> First REPRoMag workshop successfully completed on 30 March: Circular Economy for RE magnets <<
In the frame of the REProMag Academy, our partner University of Birmingham (UoB) organised a workshop at the premises of its Magnetic Materials Group, Metallurgy & Materials in Birmingham, UK.
The workshop offered the opportunity to understand and discus the advances and progress being made in the development of technologies required for a circular economy of rare earth magnets. Speakers presented work covering the full value chain of the production of recycled rare earth magnetic materials.
The workshop obtained a very positive feedback as it gathered a wide range of backgrounds — potential end-users, scientists, students, measurement and assessment firms — which enabled the 35 participants to benefit from a wide range of experiences and points of view.
>> Reinhard Bütikofer, Member of the European Parliament (The Greens/EFA) and Co-Chair of the European Green Party (EGP) contributing to our next project video <<
REProMag is making a new video on LCA – Life Cycle Assessment – applied to our project. We had the chance to get an interview with MEP Reinhard Bütikofer to discuss the importance of recycling and in particular the impact of critical material. Coming soon!
In the meantime, you can get more about the topic of recycling rare earth materials and magnets with this video from the hearing of the European Parliament Committee of Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on raw materials policy in 2011: Dr. Allan Walton from REPRoMag partner University of Birmingham giving his view to MEP Reinhard Bütikofer on challenges, R&D progresses and future priorities in the field of rare earth materials/magnets recycling.
Reinhard Bütikofer is a Member of the European Parliament (Greens/EFA) and the Co-Chair of the European Green Party (EGP). He sits on the Committee of Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), is the Vice Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the People’s Republic of China, a member of the Delegation to the United States as well as a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET). Since October 2016 he is a board member of the Green European Foundation (GEF). Short vita (English); website (German); Reinhard Bütikofer’s page on the European Parliament website
